Sanchez Brothers
Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal
In collaboration with the Sanchez Brothers and Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, The Workshop was one of the 40 participants in the making of Leonard Cohen: A Crack in Everything, the first major exhibit dedicated to the life and art of Leonard Cohen.
This exhibit focused the influence Cohen has had on a number of artists from different disciplines and generations.
The Sanchez Brothers wanted to recreate the last photograph taken of Cohen before his death in 2016. The photo was taken from is home in Los Angeles. We reconstructed his street digitally with 2D and 3D techniques and created a hologram of Leonard himself. The hologram was a mix of live footage of an actor and 3D modelling. We studied hundreds of photos and videos to model and animate Cohen as accurately as possible. Finally, our work was displayed through a physical space mirroring his real home.
Leonard Cohen: A Crack in Everything is made up of 20 pieces of work, featuring 40 artists and will be touring world wide in 10 countries.
